Subject: SPECTRALIS unique patent protected Active Eye Tracker
Dear madam and sir,
SPECTRALIS models with spectral domain OCT module are equipped with a unique
patent protected Active Eye Tracker (US 2010/0053553 A1). SPECTRALIS is the only
OCT device that uses an Active Eye Tracking system composed of two simultaneously
operating scanning systems to track eye movement during image acquisition and to
acquire OCT cross sectional images of the retina at the exact location on the retina the
operator selected (claims 1-5). Moreover, during follow up examinations the Active Eye
Tracker automatically positions OCT scans at the exact same location on the retina as
during a previous exam (claim 8). The Active Eye Tracker compensates eye
movements during image acquisition.
SPECTRALIS uses patent protected Heidelberg Noise Reduction technology (claim 6)
to reduce statistical noise and increase contrast of OCT images.
The referenced patent applies to tracking systems that use fundus images acquired
with a confocal scanning laser ophthalmoscope or CCD camera (claim 11).

In this case, because of the dollar amount, we must discuss the product and additional requirements (which you note), and then I must submit a request for sole-source purchase or bid that must be posted on our university/state website for several weeks before a vendor is selected. Failure to do this results in significant fines and potentially dismissal of employees.

While my group is actively pursuing algorithms and techniques that I feel might be of interest to Heidelberg Engineering, it was not my intent to establish a collaboration with you at this time, only to have technical questions answered for comparative purposes and to evaluate if your system is appropriate to purchase for our needs.
So that we could move forward without further delays, I would like to speak to a technical representative to have our questions addressed. If this can occur tomorrow, as scheduled, that would be best. Otherwise, please help arrange this as soon as possible.
